Job description

About Lucidya Lucidya is an AI-native Customer Experience Intelligence platform that helps organizations understand customer conversations, uncover actionable insights, and improve customer experiences through advanced AI capabilities. As the platform continues to grow, maintaining reliable, secure, and high-performing data infrastructure is critical to supporting our customers and enabling continuous product innovation. Our database environment spans multiple cloud platforms and hosting environments, supporting business-critical workloads, high-volume data ingestion, and multi-tenant applications. We are looking for a Database Administrator who can help strengthen our database operations, improve resilience, and ensure our data infrastructure remains reliable as we scale. Why this role matters Our database infrastructure is growing in both scale and complexity. With production PostgreSQL and MySQL environments running across AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and our in-Kingdom hosting environment, maintaining database availability, performance, and recoverability is essential to the reliability of our platform. As a Database Administrator, you’ll take ownership of the health and operational reliability of our production databases. You’ll work on challenges that go beyond routine administration, including multi-terabyte database environments, high-availability architecture, disaster recovery, major-version upgrades, and safe database migrations. You’ll also work closely with engineering, cloud, and reliability teams to help developers make better database decisions, prevent production incidents, and improve the way database changes are designed and delivered. If you enjoy solving complex database performance challenges, building resilient data infrastructure, and taking ownership of critical production systems, this role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact. What You’ll Do • Manage and maintain PostgreSQL and MySQL databases across AWS, GCP, and self-managed environments. • Monitor database performance, availability, and capacity. • Optimize queries, indexing, and database resource utilization. • Manage backups, point-in-time recovery, and disaster recovery. • Implement database replication, high availability, and failover strategies. • Plan database upgrades, migrations, and safe schema changes. • Maintain database security, access controls, and auditing. • Automate database operations using Bash, Python, or similar tools. • Troubleshoot database incidents and perform root-cause analysis. • Collaborate with engineering, DevOps, SRE, and Cloud teams to improve database reliability and scalability. What success looks like (First 90–120 Days) First 30 days: • You’ve developed a clear understanding of the production database estate across AWS, GCP, and SITE. • You understand the existing database architecture, operational workflows, monitoring, and recovery procedures. • You’ve built strong working relationships with the database team, Cloud Engineering, SRE, and development teams. • You’ve identified the most significant risks and improvement opportunities across availability, performance, backup, and recovery. By day 60: • You’re independently handling assigned database administration and troubleshooting activities. • You’ve reviewed backup configurations and started validating recovery procedures for critical databases. • You’ve identified gaps in database monitoring and alerting, including replication lag, WAL contention, autovacuum, and table bloat. • You’re contributing to database performance improvements and operational documentation. By day 90: • Critical database restore tests have been completed or are progressing against an agreed recovery-testing plan, with gaps documented and corrective actions defined. • Key database failure scenarios are documented through practical runbooks. • Database monitoring and alerting improvements have been implemented for prioritized operational risks. • You’re actively contributing to database reliability, performance, and incident-prevention initiatives. By day 120: • A safer database change-management process is in place, including appropriate reviews, DDL auditing, and rollback planning. • A practical PostgreSQL major-upgrade roadmap has been developed, with compatibility and migration risks assessed. • The high-availability approach for the SITE database environment has been evaluated and documented. • Database size and activity metrics are available to support the per-customer cost-allocation initiative. Requirements Who You Are You’re an experienced Database Administrator who understands that managing production databases is about more than keeping services running. You know how to prevent data loss, diagnose complex performance problems, plan high-risk changes, and build systems that remain reliable under pressure. You’re comfortable working with large, business-critical databases and can balance operational stability with the need to improve architecture, automation, and scalability. Technically, you likely: • Have 5+ years of hands-on PostgreSQL administration experience in production. • Have experience with AWS Aurora, Amazon RDS, MySQL, and self-managed Linux databases. • Understand database performance tuning, replication, high availability, and disaster recovery. • Have experience managing multi-terabyte databases, upgrades, and migrations. • Can automate database operations using Bash or Python. When it comes to database resilience: • You have hands-on experience with backups, recovery, replication, and failover. • You can troubleshoot database incidents and minimize downtime. • You follow safe change-management practices and maintain rollback plans. When it comes to database performance: • You can troubleshoot slow queries, indexing, locking, and resource utilization. • You understand PostgreSQL internals and multi-tenant database challenges. What sets you apart: • You take ownership and remain calm under pressure. • You communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with engineering teams. • You document your work and continuously improve database reliability. Nice to Have (but not required) • Experience with multi-tenant database architectures, particularly schema-per-tenant environments with thousands of schemas. • Experience managing databases larger than several terabytes with high write volumes and demanding availability requirements. • Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL tooling such as Patroni, pgBackRest, or WAL-G. • Experience supporting cloud migrations or moving customer workloads to in-Kingdom hosting environments. • Familiarity with database observability, capacity planning, and per-customer database usage or cost allocation. • Experience working in SaaS, data-platform, fintech, banking, or telecommunications environments. • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools and automated database provisioning. • Relevant certifications, such as EDB PostgreSQL or AWS certifications. What the hiring process will look like • Mawhub screening • Technical screen (45 min) — [DB Lead] • Technical deep-dive (60–90 min) with a practical scenario: diagnosing replication lag and WAL contention, planning a zero-downtime major upgrade — [DB Lead + SRE Team Lead] • Hiring manager interview — Mahmoud Moharam, Cloud Manager • Culture fit interview - HR Director
